Tumalo is close enough for a half-day.
You do not need to make this an all-day excursion. A river stop, Maston ride or hike plus food is often the right amount.
Maston is exposed high desert.
Bring water and sun protection. It can feel much hotter than shaded trails around Bend.
Do not confuse Tumalo with Tumalo Falls.
Tumalo Falls is west of Bend in the national forest; the community of Tumalo and Tumalo State Park are north of Bend.
River access does not mean every bank is public.
Use signed public areas and established trails rather than cutting through residential or private property.
